Suicide Survivors

For Suicide Survivors

"If you have lost a friend or loved one through suicide, this page is for you.

"Remember, none of us are God. We cannot control another human being's behavior and though we may have missed the 'signs,' we are not to blame. We did the best we could.

"It is common for survivors of suicide to carry guilt. We say to ourselves 'What if I....,' 'Had I have...,' 'If only...,' and the list goes on. These feelings of guilt are normal for us to feel, but these feelings are not true. I have provided a list of resources for you.

"God bless you."

Loved Ones’ Suicide Survivors

"We are parents, spouses, siblings, children, relatives, lovers, partners, in-laws, companions, and friends of one who has completed suicide. We are 'those left behind.' Victims of a tragedy that we could not foresee but feel responsibility for, and for which there is no closure.

"We are angry about our loss and seek the ability to express our anger appropriately, whether at the one we have lost, at others who ignored or were negligent about our loved one’s health, or at ourselves. We struggle with guilt and blame."

"We are Loved Ones’ Suicide Survivors (LOSS)."

"In 2001, her book (Do They Have Bad Days in Heaven? Surviving the Suicide Loss of a Sibling), the first comprehensive resource for sibling survivors of suicide, was released. The book stemmed from Michelle’s experience as a sibling survivor following her sister Denise’s suicide in 1993."
