The difference between accidental death insurance and regular life insurance is very simple: The benefit for an accidental death policy is payable only when the cause of death is an accident, such as a traffic accident, mishap during a hobby such as scuba diving, a work place accident, etc. The benefit with a regular life insurance policy is payable both for accidents and illnesses. Death due to cancer or heart disease is considered death by illness and not accident. Since regular life insurance covers any cause of death, it provides the most security.
